Bunker del Carmel sunset in Barcelona

The Bunkers del Carmel at Turó de la Rovira offer one of the most beautiful views of Barcelona. The site is especially well-known as a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset over the city. Watching the sun slowly disappear behind the hills and the sea from this vantage point used to be an unforgettable experience. However, due to nightly activities and parties at the bunkers, the situation has changed.

No More Sunset Since May 2023

Since May 2, 2023, access to the area at night is no longer possible. Previously, you could visit the Bunkers del Carmel at any time of day or night. Due to repeated celebrations and the associated noise pollution for residents, the city council decided to regulate the opening hours. In the summer months, the site is closed from 7:30 PM (19:30). Unfortunately, this change means it is no longer possible to enjoy the sunset from this specific spot.

Alternatives for a Great Sunset in Barcelona

Two of the best alternatives for watching the sunset in Barcelona are Montjuïc and Tibidabo. Both are high-altitude viewpoints offering spectacular views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea.

Montjuïc is one of the most famous viewpoints. From here, you have a wonderful view of the Barcelona skyline, the port, and the sea. A major highlight is the Magic Fountain (Font Màgica), which offers an unforgettable spectacle of water, light, and music. In the summer, the show runs from Thursday to Sunday, and in winter on Fridays and Saturdays. Additionally, you can head to the top of Montjuïc to admire the sunset away from the biggest crowds. –> Magic Fountain

Another alternative is Tibidabo, the highest point in Barcelona at 512 meters. From the summit, you have one of the most spectacular views of the city. The Tibidabo Amusement Park, which has existed since 1901, is another highlight. Its historic roller coaster and other rides offer both fun and breathtaking panoramas. The view is especially impressive during the golden hour when the sun disappears behind the hills. –> Tibidabo
